Lesson 7/22 | Study Time: 33 Min
7. Report any concerns you have about privacy and dignity to the relevant person

You should report any concerns you have to the relevant person.

This will depend on the situation and the person involved.

It could be…

A more experienced worker
A carer
A family member
A safeguarding lead or specialist

If you have any concerns about a person you support, it is best practice to report your concerns to the most appropriate person, for example, a senior member of staff, the individual’s carer or a family member. You can contact a safeguarding specialist if your concerns relate to possible abuse. If you do not raise your concerns you are neglecting the person’s wellbeing and your duty of care.

Think about anything you see or hear which might have a negative impact on the individual’s you support.

This could be:

  • 1. Colleagues talking about individuals in public places, where they can be overheard, with each other or their family and friends which is not appropriate.
  • 2. Concerns about other people sharing information or talking about an individual when they are not entitled to this information.
  • 3. People asking for information when they are not entitled to it.
Reporting a concern means issues can be dealt with and resolved.
Not reporting a risk could put a person at risk of harm and abuse.
