Clean up any spillages promptly and use appropriate signage to warn others of wet floors.
Take your time, don’t rush. Many accidents occur when people are trying to do things quickly, neglecting their safety.
Wear sensible footwear with good gripping soles.
Keep walkways free of obstacles that could become trip hazards, such as boxes or loose cabling.
Look out for uneven surfaces and report dangerous areas, such as potholes or raised ground.
Ensure all work areas including passages and stairways are lit sufficiently.
Be extra careful during periods of wet or icy weather when the ground may be slippery under foot.
Follow the risk assessments that you have in place in your service.
Report anything that you think is unsafe.
Carry out safety checks in line with your policies and procedures.
Exercise caution if you have to work at height and follow the Work at Height Regulations.
Work at height means work in any place where, if there were no precautions in place, a person could fall a distance liable to cause personal injury. For example, you are working at height if you: Are working on a ladder you could fall through a fragile surface or fall into an opening in a floor or a hole in the ground
