Module 14

Lesson 14/26 | Study Time: 30 Min
Module 14

14. List the emergency first aid actions you are and are not allowed to carry out

There will be emergency
first aid actions you cannot carry out until you have been trained.
You will need specific
emergency first aid training in order to be able to respond to a situation
where an individual has had a more serious accident or sudden illness.

Before
you have undertaken training, you must always call for or get help from someone
who is trained. Once you have been trained, you will be able to follow the
procedures you have been given.
You must never put yourself
or others in danger by attempting to deal with an emergency situation.

Without appropriate training
you could make the situation much worse than it is and even cause death by
acting inappropriately.
In a situation where first
aid is required, even if you have not been trained, you need to remember that
there are always things that you can do, for example, you can call for
assistance or you can contact the emergency services by using a phone to call
999.

You can reassure the
individual or other people who may be present or have witnessed the incident.
You can tell everyone involved that help is on its way.
It is essential to be calm.

Do you know what you can and
cannot do in an emergency? Do you believe you have achieved the level of
competence you need to practice safely? If not, talk to your employer.
