4. List tasks relating to health and safety that should not be carried out without training
Without the correct level of
information, training and competence checks there are certain tasks you are not
allowed to carry out. Your manager will support you to
identify what you can and cannot do.
These are some examples. See if you can
guess what they are: -Moving
people or heavy objects -First
aid -Fighting
fire -Administering
medication -Colostomy
care -PEG
feeding -Administering
injections -Food
handling -Changing
dressings -Clinical
waste disposal -Powerless
Quick note on “PEG
Feeding”. PEG stands for
Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastronomy.
PEG feeding It is an endoscopic medical procedure
where a tube is put into a person’s stomach through the abdomen to provide a
method of feeding the person. You will need to work with your employer
to identify what tasks you can carry out safely and what you may need further
information, instruction and training on.
If you have already been trained, when was your competence last checked?
If it was longer than a year ago, you may need a refresher. Try using our
assessments to check your knowledge, if you have retained the knowledge, you
can avoid repeating the training again and evidence your knowledge and
competence instead.
