To report a fire you need to telephone 999.
The operator will ask you which service you require. Ask for the FIRE SERVICE.
Stay calm whilst you are being transferred to the FIRE SERVICE call centre.
Take deep breaths and practice what you need to say so you communicate clearly and factually.

The call centre operator will ask you the following types of questions:
If you are trapped in a fire situation and are unable to leave your property safely, the fire control operator will stay on the line with you and give you fire survival guidance to help you until the fire professionals arrive.
A Break Glass Call Point is an emergency alarm where you break the glass to raise the alarm.
They are usually sited where they can be easily seen and usually mounted 1.4m from the floor. They can be found in public buildings, on landings of stairways and at exits to open air.

The glass should ONLY be broken in an emergency.
These are important skills. We hope you never have to use them but if you do, stay calm and never take risks with your own life.
If you are in a medium to high risk environment, you may want to organise a practical demonstration with a local fire prevention expert. You can practice using a fire extinguisher to put out a fire in a controlled environment.
If you are in a low risk environment and you do not have the opportunity to practice, at least take the time to read the labels, understand what type of fire your extinguisher can and cannot be used on. Lift it up to see how heavy it is and what it feels like.

Well done! You have completed this eLearning.
You can now complete any assessments and tasks that have been assigned to you.
