Module 01: An Introduction to Eyelash Lift and Tint Treatments

1.1 Introduction

Welcome to your first module! Here we give you an orientation as to what you'll be
covering and how offering eyelash lift and tint treatments can fit into and enrich your
skillset as a beauty therapist.
Eyelash lift and tint treatments are rapidly growing in popularity, as a way in which to achieve a
beautifully natural, long-lasting and low-maintenance 'eyes-wide-open' look. Clients may not be
familiar with the many benefits of a lash lift and tint treatment, so it's important to be able to explain
clearly how you can help them achieve their dream look with this treatment.

1.2 The Benefits of an Eyelash Lift and Tint

You'll be able to tint the lashes to whatever colour the client wishes
This creates an instant effect, whether they're seeking to darken their lashes for definition and
understated beauty or choose a bolder colour for impact. You can consult with the client about
mixing the perfect colour for them
Lifting the lashes has the beautiful effect of 'opening' the eye so that it appears perfectly
framed by the client's natural lashes.

The lift is made from the roots of the lashes, which means that you can really sculpt the look
that the client wants, altering the angle of the lift, to achieve different effects
The treatment can last up to 12 weeks with a very high-quality result, making it an appealingly
good value and easy-to-maintain look
The treatment is highly customisable, ensuring that the client can achieve a totally bespoke
effect

1.3 Why Would a Client Choose an Eyelash Lift and Tint?

An eyelash lift and tint treatment is a fantastic alternative to using false eyelashes, as it
can achieve a beautiful effect, without any of the hassle of adhering false lashes to the
client's own eyelashes.
Therefore, for anyone who likes the false lash look, but dislikes the falsity or fuss of applying and
removing them, this is a brilliant option.
Similarly, for anyone in between false lash treatments, who wants to give their eyes a break from
having false eyelashes attached, this is the ideal interim option.

This treatment is also far safer for the client, as the risks of infection, irritation or reaction are far
less than with false eyelashes. Anyone can have this treatment, as long as they have responded with
no reaction to a patch test conducted as per the manufacturer's instructions (of each product) and as
per the beauty therapist's insurance stipulations around the required time between the patch test
and the treatment. This is usually 48 hours.

1.4 How to Prepare for Giving an Eyelash Lift and Tint
Treatment

Firstly, your own personal hygiene is top priority.
You must ensure that you are clean and professional in your appearance, that your uniform is cleanly
laundered and that you take every care throughout your day, whether or not you are performing a
treatment, to wash your hands, and make appropriate use of sanitisers, gloves, masks or any other
hygiene protocols that apply.
You must also keep your work area clean and tidy, and, before any treatment, ensure that you have
set it up with all the tools of the trade that you will need.

This will help you to avoid having to rush
or rummage, to find something that is not to hand, which is not a pleasant experience for you or the
client during a treatment.
The client area must also be correctly set up. The couch must be made up with freshly-laundered
coverings and towels, as well as a fresh layer of disposable couch roll, which must be removed and
disposed of after any treatment.
The temperature in the room must be comfortable enough for the client to be warm while lying still
for an hour, which is the duration of this treatment. You may wish to add an extra blanket or use an
electric blanket, to help keep the client warm and comfortable, as this is quite a long time for them
to be lying still.

Accommodate any back pain or discomfort, wherever you can, perhaps offering a bolster under their
knees for support or by adjusting the couch, as appropriate.
You must carry out a very thorough initial consultation with the client, during which you must
diligently fill out your client record card, and then ensure that both you and the client sign it.
You must clearly explain everything about the treatment to the client so that they have a good
understanding of everything that is involved.

Really make the effort to go into detail as to how they
will feel physically while receiving the treatment, what they will smell (some of the products used for
an eyelash lift and tint have a strong smell), exactly what will happen, how they will need to have
their eyes when you instruct them to open and close them, and for how long.
This way, you can ensure that you will meet the client's expectations by setting them yourself so
that, when you conduct the treatment, it will hardly differ (if at all) from your description.
You must address any concerns or questions that the client may have with empathy, accurate
information and a reassuring presence.

1.5 Patch Testing

Before the eyelash lift and tint treatment itself, it is vital to have conducted a patch test.
This is a legal requirement, and you must check in advance with your insurance company as to what
their stipulations are regarding patch testing.
These stipulations can vary as to how and when the patch testing should be conducted, and, in the
case of repeat clients, how often. It is generally at least 48 hours prior to the treatment, so this will
need to be arranged as a separate appointment.
You must patch test every product that you will be using in the treatment, to make sure that the
client will not have any reaction.

Put all the information on the client record card, and make sure
that you and the client both sign it. An insurance company would require this information in the
unlikely event of a claim, so it is vital to complete it. Please watch the patch testing video closely for instructions on how to carry out a patch test, and
always refer to the manufacturer's instructions of any product that you need to test.
