Module 06: Removing the Tint

Lesson 6/7 | Study Time: 60 Min
Module 06: Removing the Tint

6.1 Introduction

Having left the tint on the client's lashes for a reduced time of five minutes, you must
follow the steps demonstrated in the video and as listed below, to remove the tint from the
client's eyelashes.
It is important to note that the tint is left on for only five minutes, which is less than the time
recommended by the manufacturer for a standalone tint treatment. This is because, in a lift and tint
treatment, the eyelashes have already been pre-conditioned by the lift products, and it doesn't
require as long to colour the lashes.

(Step 1) After the allotted time, remove the tint

Explain to the client that it's now time to remove the tint.

Ask the client to keep their eyes closed, until you ask them to reopen them

Work on one eye, until almost no tint residue remains, before moving to the other eye

Use the damp cotton wool pads already on top of their eyelids, to remove the tint: support the
eye  with one hand, then with the other, pinch the cotton wool pad
together over the lashes, and wipe, taking the tint away with the pad

Using another fresh damp cotton wool pad or two, continue to wipe the eye, supporting the
eye as you do so, and keep wiping, until the pad comes back clean, working both over and
under the eye

Dispose of used pads
When one eye is done, repeat on the other eye, with fresh cotton wool pads

NB

Avoid getting the tint on your fingers, as it will stain. Work carefully, yet quickly, as you don't
want to leave the tint on for too long.
What to do if the client gets tint in their eye
If tint touches the eyeball, it will sting.

The best way to deal with this is straightforward and very effective:

1. Reassure the client, and place damp cotton wool pads on top of their eyes

2. Ask the client to rub their own eyes gently using the pads, blinking in between rubs
3. Explain to them that this will quickly clear any tint from contact with their eye and will quickly
relieve the stinging

(Step 2) Check that all residue is removed

Using fresh, damp cotton wool pads, make sure that all residues of the tint are removed from
between, above and below the lashes and lash lines, both top and bottom. Check, to make sure that
all lashes are tinted.
Note: If there are some lashes untinted, you must advise the client, and offer to re-tint. This is
something that you want to avoid, as it is obviously time-consuming and not ideal to immediately reexpose the eyes and eyelashes to the tint chemicals. Although they are safe, they are not designed
for heavy or repetitive usage.
This is why it is a great idea to practise on friends or family or willing volunteers, before treating
clients; this way, you can approach your clients with experience and confidence.

(Step 3) Apply conditioning oil to the lashes

Explain to the client that it is important to apply conditioning oil to their lashes, following the lift and
tint treatments, as the products used can be a little harsh on the hair. Using conditioning oil will
help to lock in moisture and maintain the health of the lashes. Avoid using too much, as this can
sting the eye.
Following the manufacturer's instructions, apply a small quantity of conditioning oil to the
back of your hand
Load a small amount onto a spoolie brush, and comb through the lashes, brushing and setting
them into place

(Step 4) Show the client the results of the treatment
Hand the client a mirror so that they can admire their beautifully lifted and tinted eyelashes!

(Step 5) Aftercare
Advise the client about any products that you may recommend.

Explain that you will send a digital
list of anything discussed and, if appropriate, arrange the next appointment for 8-10 weeks, or up to
12 weeks, depending on the client.

6.2 Cleaning and Clearing Away, Once the Client Has Gone

After the client has left, it is vital that you clean and clear away your equipment and waste
correctly and promptly.

Here are our top tips:

Keep gloves on for clearing away, as this will protect your hands from any accidental staining
caused by touching tint residue

Use cotton wool, to remove all tint from your tinting dish(es), and place the cotton wool
directly into the bin

Spray the wiped dishes with IPA cleaning spray, and store
If you are reusing the silicon eye pads (most are reusable), place them in hot soapy water, and
agitate, until all product residue is removed

Spray the silicone pads with IPA cleaning spray, and store in an airtight container

Dispose of any small plastic tools that you may have used, as well as any orange sticks and any
other disposable items

Empty your bin, before the next client comes in, to avoid any residual odours caused by the
strong chemicals in the products used

Keep all other tools clean by replacing them in a jar of fresh barbicide so that they are clean
and sterile for your next treatment

MODULE SUMMARY

This module provided a step by step guide on how to remove the tint, how to complete the treatment
and offer aftercare advice to the client.
In the next module, we will discuss the differences between a lash lift and tint treatment and a false
lash application, as well as the principles of aftercare
