7. Reviewing risk assessments


Each risk assessment must be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure that it is still relevant and fit for purpose.

The review date needs to be clearly recorded as does the next review date.


Different factors will inform the review period. An example of this might be that an individual you are providing support to has been prescribed a particular medication for a set period of time. During this period of time whilst taking the medication, the individual may be advised not to go out walking alone due to the potential risks from the medication’s side effects.

If an individual is subject to a Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) which is being replaced by the Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS), it will be crucial to cross-reference any safeguards in their risk assessment.
