8. Working with other agencies to risk assess

Lesson 8/9 | Study Time: 20 Min
8. Working with other agencies to risk assess

We are all responsible for the health, safety and wellbeing of ourselves and other people, therefore, we need to remain vigilant and proactive in our approach. Involving other agencies in our risk assessments ensures that the different specialisms and knowledge inform our practice.

This ensures we do not discriminate and that we use the least restrictive control measures when risks are identified.

It is important that we are NOT RISK AVERSE.

This means not allowing the people we support to take any risks at all.

Everyone has the right to make their own decisions and choices.

The people we support are no different.

It is essential that we support them to make “informed” decisions and choices based on their capacity to understand the risks and the consequences of their choices.

This means working together with our colleagues and people from other agencies to support individuals to take positive risks. The culture we work in needs to embrace this and be open to challenge and finding innovative ways of working for the benefit of the people being supported as well as the development of our services.
