Every worker providing social care services needs to have core skills.

If you think core skills are not a requirement for you or your role – you are wrong!

Employers need to identify the level of skill required for a role.They need to make sure you have these skills or you are supported to achieve them. You will definitely use core skills. They are a vital part of your role.

That is why core skills are so important. They are integral to what you do.

Skills for Care have produced a Guide “Developing core skills in the workplace” that can help managers to assess and develop your core skills, if necessary. You can see the guide by clicking on the blue button.

You can assess your core skills and get support if you identify learning needs.

You can do this using Skills for Care’s Core Skills resources. Don’t forget to work with your manager on this. It is not a weakness or something to be ashamed of but your manager needs to understand if you need support and is there to help you.  You are working with vulnerable people and you could cause them serious harm if you make a mistake due to poor core skills. The blue button provides a link to Skills for Care’s Core skills page on their website.
