About this course
Aromatherapy is derived from the Greek word, 'aroma' meaning spice or, in France, 'aromatherapie'. The definition is the use of aromatic plant extracts and the use of essential oils for healing and cosmetic purposes. Certainly, fragrances can relax or stimulate the brain and as such, can help with emotional healing process and not only the physical aspects.

Understanding the components is vital when it comes to blending. The oils must have a similar make-up, which enables them to work positively with each other. Otherwise, the effectiveness of your blend may be affected.
The module also discussed the properties and risks of the various compounds.
In the next module, we look at how to choose essential oils.
In this module, you learnt the importance of looking for high-quality pure essential oils.
You also now understand the benefits and negative aspects of some of the most popular oils. With this information, you can feel confident in recommending or using these oils.
In the next module, you learn how to blend essential oils.
In this module, we discussed the role of compounds in the blending process.
When experimenting, practise mixing up existing blends. Look at the benefits before beginning to blend. Try to aim for a balanced scent. Remember to limit the number of oils to three or less and only use a drop or two.
Also, don't forget to write down the types and quantity of oils used in your blend, and to label your bottles.
In the next module, we discuss the oils that can be used to help those who wish to lose weight.
In this module, you learnt that essential oils can be used in a holistic manner to help tackle weight issues, due to the powerful effect they can have on the mood.
Using specific oils can also help to boost the recovery of a flagging immune system, aid stress relief, manage IBS, and much more. Whatever you are helping a client with regarding their health and wellbeing, always remember to advise them that physical exercise is important.

This module discussed the importance of storing oils safely. They should be kept away from children and pets.
You learnt that oils should not be used in excess and they should always be diluted. Make sure to research oils to find the best ones. The labels should say 100% pure oil or therapeutic grade and should also list the ingredients.
Ask your client to complete a health form - the more you know about them, the better your treatment will be. Remember to try a patch test before using oils just in case they react.
In the next module, we discuss buying the oils which will have the most use.
In this module, we learnt about the 10 most useful oils and their benefits.
Remember that if you enjoy a particular scent within a family or category of scents, you are more than likely to appreciate some of the other scents within that same family.
One small bottle will last you for some time, so there is no need to buy more than is needed.
This module gave you some tips on how to set up your own business and the importance of advertising and marketing to the right people.
You now understand just how complex aromatherapy can be, but it can also become an important part of your life, both personally and professionally.
Remember to be fully informed and confident with using a basic set of oils first, and then build up from there. You can then take your business further by learning other holistic therapies.
