1.1 Introduction to Eyebrow Definition

This course offers extensive information on preparing your workspace and on being aware of available products,
safety and hygiene.
It teaches you how to create a good customer
experience through proper consultation, rapport and a professional job which considers the client's requirements.
Eyebrows are big business nowadays. They are
expressive and striking and can be successfully defined to give the appearance that the whole shape of the face has been changed. Eyebrows,
which were once barely
noticed or plucked
into nearly invisible lines, now make a bold statement
expressing confidence and attractiveness. Clients will ask if they should wax, tint or tweeze
their eyebrows, as part of a routine visit to the beautician. This course will give you the answers to that
question.
1.2 Eyebrow Shaping

* This technique can change a client's appearance.
The brows can be shaped to give the client the look they
desire to have.
* The client's face shape can appear subtly altered by the shaping
of eyebrows.
* The face can appear slimmer,
the eyes wider and the brows well-groomed and elegant.
* A square-shaped face can be complemented by soft, gently rounded brows.
* High arched brows will bring definition to a round face by adding some angles.
* A long face requires extended
brows, as short brows will make a long face appear even longer.
* A heart-shaped face requires a thinner brow to make
the forehead seem larger and the chin less pointy.
* An oval face does not require a strong brow arch as the oval is already a strongly
defined face.
1.3 Eyebrow Waxing

*Trim eyebrows with sterilised scissors before waxing.
*If your client is sensitive
to pain, you can apply a numbing lotion a few minutes before waxing.
*Once you have cleaned the brows with a pre-wax cleaner, apply the wax above the brow, press down with the pre-cut wax strip and then rip it off, quick but firmly.
*Any discomfort can be minimised by pressing firmly on the area for a few minutes.
*Once you have waxed the top and bottom of the
brows, you can tweeze any straggly remaining
hairs.
*Apply a gentle lotion, possibly aloe-based to soothe the reddened skin.
Note- Waxing will need to be repeated fortnightly.
1.4 Eyebrow Tweezing

This is less intrusive and painful than waxing and is the best for cleaning up stray hairs. A skilled beauty professional can shape the
eyebrows perfectly using a pair of tweezers, some numbing lotion and a soothing after treatment ointment.
1.5 Eyebrow Threading

This ancient method of shaping
eyebrows is less painful than waxing. It's a specialist
skill which is not taught at beginner
level but is useful to know. With an hourglass-shaped piece of thread, which is
pulled tight in a scissor-like motion over each hair, stray eyebrows are quickly and skillfully removed. This is very precise and effective for small areas.
1.6 Eyebrow Tinting

As bold brows remain popular,
tinting to a dark shade is often requested by clients. Clients who change hair colour or have patchy or short eyebrows might also favour tinting. A clean makeup-free face is a requirement for
tinting. You can also apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly around the eyebrows to keep colour from staining the skin. Once you have applied the tint, mixed with the
developer to the client's brows, it will only take a minute or two for the colour to be right. Be careful not to leave the tint on one brow longer than the other. Check the colour after a minute or two, even if you have to reapply it.
1.7 Other Brow Techniques
The brow lends itself to a range of more unusual techniques than those mentioned.
Micro-blading is a form of tattooing. Defined
delicate strokes in the eyebrow
hair using a needle
and pigment ink alters the shape of the brow and makes it look fuller and
thicker. The technique can be a bit painful,
like normal tattooing, but lasts up to 28 months before
needing to be refreshed
Brow extensions are, like hair extensions, when the
hair is lengthened by adding longer pieces. In
the case of the brow, extensions are added using a medical-grade glue to
lengthen or thicken the brows.
Brow lamination is when chemicals are used, as in a
perm, first to relax and then to straighten the brow
hairs. Then the brow is fixed into its new shape and a moisturiser applied.
Brow henna, like normal henna, is applied to make
the brows seem fuller and thicker for a special occasion. As its plant-based
and activated by rose water, it is safe and gentle as a short-term tinting
solution, lasting up to six weeks.
1.8 Becoming A Brow Expert

This course will help you to become a brow expert. This skill has become increasingly
popular in the UK over the last few years and is definitely a great thing to
list on your CV. A brow expert is defined
as a therapist who gives specific treatments
to the brow area to enhance the appearance
of the client.
A brow expert should
have the following
skills
*Keen attention to detail. The brow is a very small
area, and any untidy or stray hair would be noticed.
*Accurate shaping. Symmetry is very important in
eyebrows, so measurements must be careful and
accurate.
*Imagination. A good brow stylist should be able to
look at his or her client's face shape and hairstyle
and visualise the right shape of eyebrow.
*The ability to be dexterous
and nimble while working quickly and effectively.
*A good eye for detail and for seeing perfection.
*A competent and creative brow expert will have no
problem receiving employment in a beauty salon or a brow bar.
*It's also easy to work from home or consult clients
in their homes because the equipment is small enough to transport.
